Missions

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

– Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus’ command and promise in Matthew 28 are the last words he spoke before ascending to heaven. The first thing to know about missions is that they’re all about being like Jesus. Jesus left the comfort of heaven to go on a mission to seek and save what was lost (Luke 19:10). Now God sends us on mission into our neighborhoods, our region, and even to places we may never go otherwise to continue Jesus’ mission by sharing everything Jesus has shared with us (Acts 1:8).

Cornerstone supports mission work around the world. With each project we support we strive to care for each missions partner, be actively involved with each partner and share the love of Christ through each partner. We cannot financially support every worthy missions project around the world, but we do prayerfully consider every work that comes before us as we listen for how God wants Cornerstone to be a part of what He is doing all over the world.

Each year hundreds of students descend on a small spot of land nestled in the woods of Virginia and spend a week learning about how much Jesus loves them. There’s also plenty of fun with daily time in the swimming pool and water slide, recreation, and various activities.

In addition to its summer camp schedule, Cedar Creek Christian Camp also offers events throughout the year including an annual trip for Senior Saints, weekend retreats for both men and women, as well as retreats for children and teens.

Several members also volunteer their time to the camp – from attending representatives meetings to helping at clean up days to spending a week at camp as a staff member. Our minister also serves as a camp director and is dean of the middle school week.

The Jack Ballard Church Builders began in 1971 as a small ministry of Mt Carmel Christian Church in Decatur, GA. Originally the group built temporary scout huts, but soon found themselves assisting other congregations in building permanent church facilities.

To date they have helped build nearly 100 churches in 25 states and Canada. While building worship facilities has been the primary focus, they have also assisted group homes and Christian service camps.

Tim & Erin MacSaveny – along with their children Rose, Everett, and Julian – are missionaries in Morogoro, Tanzania serving with Pioneer Bible Translators.  They are working on translating the New Testament into the heart languages of several East African tribal languages.

The following excerpt from the PBT website really sums up their ministry:

We believe the single greatest way we can help a hurting world is to give them God’s Word. This can only be accomplished through the communication of God’s desired plans for us and by people coming to see who their creator is. Some places on this earth have never encountered one verse of God’s Word. As a result, they lack an accurate picture of the God of Heaven who knows them and loves them intimately. Why wouldn’t we expect the people living in these places to do and experience terrible things? Somebody has to take intentional steps to address the world’s pain. We believe we are those “somebodies.”
